Why did you want to lose weight?
My being overweight was never a problem in the past. I was never really judged because of it, had a stable circle of friends, never had problems finding a partner, and my health was also fine.
But a few years ago, I started getting a lot of pain in my left thigh and, after finding a big lump, my world came crashing down. Apart from the pain, however, the lump was benign. After several examinations and an operation, which resulted in a fistula, I was physically very weak. I was advised to lose weight to reduce the pain.
"A pizza won't make you fat, just like a salad won't make you thin."
At first, that was a shock for me. I was sluggish, inactive and frustrated, and in four weeks, I gained another 11 pounds. That's when I realized something had to change. Now, here I am. I'm 115 pounds lighter, have no pain in my leg, can move around without problems, and I'm happy and in shape. I never would have thought it was possible to get my quality of life back.
What did you want to accomplish on your journey?
First and foremost, I wanted to be pain-free and healthier overall because obesity can bring a lot of health issues with it. I didn't want to be so sluggish anymore. Instead, I wanted to be fit and persistent. At the time, my goal was to lose 110 pounds and be at a normal weight. Since I saw a lot of success with YAZIO pretty quickly, it wasn't difficult at all to stay motivated.
How did you reach your goals?
Initially, I weighed myself and started counting calories with YAZIO to get a better feel for food. With the weight loss, I was able to try out different types of exercise, like cycling, hula hopping, table tennis and home workouts. These days, I really have fun being physically active. It helps bring balance to my routine.
Barbara’s Tips
I can run all of my errands on foot and my daily exercise has quadrupled. I also eat mostly healthy foods and drink 65 to 100 ounces of water every day. After the first 3 months of losing weight, I carefully tried introducing some cheat meals to my plan to see how I could handle them. Everything went smoothly.
How did YAZIO help you?
Thanks to the YAZIO app, I had an understanding for how many calories foods contain. With it, I could better deal with basal and active metabolic rates and understand how the entire mechanism works. It also helped me to visualize and keep an overview of consumed and burned calories.
Did you have setbacks?
I didn't really experience any setbacks. After I had lost 66 pounds, there were a few weeks of plateaus from time to time. Otherwise, there weren't any setbacks.
What advice do you have for other users?
I would advise other users to be patient with themselves and not give up after a bad day. You have to keep going. To accurately track everything, weighing your foods is also very important. Plateaus are a normal part of the weight-loss process and a few extra workout days can help to boost or change your metabolism.
What are your future goals?
My goals for the future are to get down to a weight of 163 pounds and then maintain it. To feel completely comfortable with myself after losing all that weight, I can imagine considering a skin-tightening surgery in the future.
Why do you want to tell your story?
It's important for me to share my story so I can show everyone that it is possible, you just have to know how. I never would have thought I'd come so far, but the app really helped me reach my goal. I want to encourage others to start making a change because it is definitely worth it!
